These little goats are just amazing. I think they are very addicting.
Some say they are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Some say the Mini
Silky is their passion. As for me, goats are my passion but Mini Silkies are my obsession.
I love breeding, promoting and showing my goats and meeting new friends along
the way.
Silkies are a breed in development so you will see several different looks but
the biggest difference will be in the coat. It takes several generations to
develop a consistant long silky coat.
Some are confused by the difference in a Miniature Silky Fainter (aka Mini Silkies) and a Fainter. In some cases, there is no difference.
In others, there can be quite a difference. Mini Silkies are bred for a long,
silky, flowing coat. Some 100% full blood Fainters qualify because their coat
is long. The majority of my herd falls under that category. Some Mini Silkies
are crossed with Nigerian Dwarf to obtain the longer, silkier coat. I have a
few in my herd that fall under that category too. I prefer Silkies that faint
but also breed the 50/50's that don't.
The majority of my herd is foundation
stock as I have only been breeding them since 2006. I have been able to get
a few long silky coats and have been refining my breeding plan as I go. My goal
is to improve upon the last generation. My main focus is on healthy, happy goats.
So, welcome to the wonderful world of Mini Silkies! Please feel free to browse
through our site and make sure to let us know if you have any questions.
